Birthing Equity Collective members awarded Black Maternal Health grant from the Chester County Women’s Commission (September 2024)

Chester County Women’s Commission has recognized members of the Birthing Equity Collective including Black Women of Chester County in Action (BWCCA), Covenant Life Doula, and The 4th Trimester MOMMIE as award recipients of funds to Improve Black Maternal Health in Chester County, Pennsylvania. BWCCA Birthing Equity Collective plans to research birthing experiences of Black mothers specific to Chester County and advocate on their behalf based on findings. Covenant Life Doula will be launching a grief recovery program for those who have experienced infant loss. The 4th Trimester MOMMIE hosted their annual MOMMIE Shower in December with resources available for birthing people of Chester County

Racism and Black-Infant Health Conference at Chester County Hospital (September 2023)

Black Women of Chester County in Action and partners collaborate with Chester County Hospital providers to host a discussion on the effects of systematic racism on the health of Black mothers and their infants. Activities included discussions on how to break a chain of events leading to devastating health outcomes

Black Maternal-Infant Health Legislative Roundtable at Lincoln University (February 2024)

Black Women of Chester County in Action partnered with Lincoln University Womxn’s Center, The 4th Trimester MOMMIE, Office of State Representative Chrissy Houlihan, Once Upon a Preemie, Inc, Chester County Maternal and Child Health Consortium, and more to host a legislative roundtable discussion on Black maternal-infant health in Chester County. The roundtable discussion highlighted the large racial disparities seen in health outcomes of Black birthing women and infants and proposed policies to improve the poor outcomes.
